Bautzner Senf

Bautz'ner mustard - the gold from East Germany

Bautz'ner Senf was always East Germans' favorite mustard, but it has long since conquered the entire federal territory! Not least because of its quality and its special taste. 60 percent of the mustard seeds used come from regional cultivation, 45 percent of which come from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and 15 percent from Upper Lusatia. The traditional Bautz'ner mustard (since 1866) is the market leader in Germany.

Bautz'ner mustard is a pan-German success story

Picturesque, idyllic in East Saxony on the Spree: This is where the Bautz'ner mustard comes from, the Britze & Söhne company founded in Bautzen in 1866. At that time, must was already being produced in the company's delicatessen department. A proud 94% of East Germans know the traditional mustard, but so do 71% in the West. Allyl mustard oil gives it its special taste after a pinch of horseradish. The oil is released when the crushed mustard seeds are mashed. Reunification could not stop the success story of Bautz'ner mustard because, unlike many other Eastern products, consumer loyalty remained with it and it also began its triumphal march in the West. Today he is the nationwide market leader! The brand has been part of the Develey Holding GmbH & Co. Beteiligungs KG group from Unterhaching in Bavaria since 1992, but production continues in East Germany.
