Buying Klosterfrau in Bulk: Melissengeist, Franzbranntwein & More
Two Centuries of Klosterfrau
Klosterfrau goes back to the nun Maria Clementine Martin. She started her business at the foot of Cologne Cathedral, and it was entered in the city register on 23 May 1826. Her Melissengeist became the founding product of what is now the Klosterfrau Group. In 1829 she was allowed to use the Prussian coat of arms on her labels, and it still appears on every bottle of Melissengeist today. The group celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2026. Its central functions are still based in Cologne. The subsidiary Klosterfrau Berlin is a key production site, making lozenges and liquid products among others.
