
Ritz - the crackers on the red carpet
When Ritz Crackers were launched in 1934, marketing professional Sydney Stern chose the name "Ritz" to offer "a slice of the good life" to all those suffering during the Great Depression. Hotelier king César Ritz had long since coined the term "ritzy" for something distinguished and classy. An image that is still maintained today, even through the packaging with its red background.
