From pharmacist Heinrich Nestle to the global corporation Nestlé
What more can we say: Nestlé is the world's largest food manufacturer, headquartered in Switzerland. Heinrich Nestlé, a native of Frankfurt, moved to the Alpine country and pursued a career. In 1867, the trained pharmacist succeeded in producing a soluble milk powder as a breast milk substitute. Instant coffee (see Nescafé) followed, and countless mergers and acquisitions later, Nestlé is now entirely publicly held (shares).
